Wearable smart patches for multimodal wound healing – (DRESWOUTRE)
NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme – Call 2022
Grant Agreement SPS.MYP G6031
Project start/end date 16/10/2023-15/10/2026
Abstract The primary objective of this project is to create an advanced multimodal wound dressing made from biodegradable polymers and composites endowed with antimicrobial and immunomodulatory features. This innovative dressing is designed to effectively address the early to mid-stages of the wound healing process while necessitating minimal healthcare intervention. Inspired by the structure of human skin, the dressing will be meticulously engineered through a biomimetic approach, incorporating multiple functional layers tailored to fulfill specific roles. Utilizing electrospinning as the fabrication method, we aim to precisely emulate the intricate structure of human skin. To assess efficacy, preclinical animal studies will be conducted to identify the most promising formulation candidates, paving the way for further refinement and medical device development.
