BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The main objective of the SIRIMAP project is the realization of a new localization system macro, meso and microplastics in the sea through the use of remote and proximity platforms, systems for sampling, methodologies for their analysis in situ and at lab scale and in the development of appropriate recovery and recycling strategies. The SIRIMAP objectives are particularly relevant for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea, recently identified as a region of accumulation of plastic debris. In this scenario, SIRIMAP represents a strategic proposal for the “Blue Growth” area of specialization, and in line with the development guidelines defined at world, European and national level. The objectives of the project are: development of satellite data analysis strategies and methods for remote macroplastic mapping; Proximity platform development (UAV) for meso / microplastic mapping; in situ sampling and analysis, characterization of meso and microplastics and evaluation of recycling and recovery strategies; Experimental development and demonstrators. The expected results are the development, design and implementation of new algorithms for the detection of plastics from satellite data; new configuration of remotely piloted aircraft (UAV) with detachable and recoverable payload sampler. New hyperspectral analysis for UAV mapping; innovative methodologies for in situ analysis with microfluidic system, innovative analysis system for microplastics. The results obtained will allow the creation of highly innovative demonstrators such as: full-scale mockup with payload, compact opto / mechanical system for in situ analysis, plant solutions for the separation of marine litter; prototyping of composite materials.
