The activity considers the design of composite materials in conservative dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics, implantology and maxillo-facial surgery.
In conservative dentistry, composites and advanced photo-polymerization process are designed and analysed in order to enhance the in vivo performance of dental restorations. In particular, LED and LASER photo-curing processincorporate the SLER (soft light Energy release) technology.
In endodontics, composite materials and processes used to treat and to restore the tooth through the post & core technique are designed and analyzed. The activity consider novel methods to compact gutta-percha and advanced process to restore the tooth through carbon, glass, and quartz fiber reinforced composites.
In orthodontics, brackets and advanced orthodontic devices, wires and orthodontic cements are analyzed and designed in order to improve the efficacy of the treatment which aims to align teeth. This activity also consider the design of advanced systems that allow to control the force and mechanical moment that orthodontic traditional or super-elastic wires transfer to teeth through brackets.
The biomechanics of implants and titanium or composite based superstructures is carried out using advanced virtual and solid models which mimic the behavior of the human mandible.
In maxillo-facial surgery, scaffolds for bone tissue engineering are manufactured using polyester based composite reinforced with hybrid PCL/Si, PCL/Ti particles.
